Rooted in celebration and fun, La Vache! puts a spotlight on the timeless pairing of steak, frites and wine, served without pretense in a lively yet elegant setting inspired by the entrecôtes of Paris.
Located at Gemmill Lane, La Vache! offers the Lion City a refined yet accessible concept: a set menu that begins with a crisp green salad of organic leaves and walnuts tossed in a tangy mustard vinaigrette, followed by 10oz USDA Double Gold Ribeye seared to your preference. The steak is served with unlimited frites and La Vache!’s signature sauce – a satisfying, no-fuss meal that distils the spirit of French dining into its most essential form. A concise wine list complements the offerings, alongside classic cocktails and to end the meal on a sweet note with a dessert trolley featuring house-made patisserie favourites such as Profiteroles, Lemon Meringue Tart and Raspberry Millefeuille.
The name, La Vache!, is the French expression for ‘Holy Cow!’, setting the tone for a spirited, joy-filled experience. That energy is carried throughout the dining room, where playful Parisian scenes decorate the walls and tabletops. Worn red-leather banquettes, oak panelling and brass fixtures evoke Left Bank bistros, while the bar counter invites guests to enjoy an aperitif or casual steak-frites before settling into the 46-seat dining room. Once seated, guests simply share how they like their steak cooked and the meal begins.
‘Good Things Come In Threes’
The tradition of steak-frites as we know it today has origins in 1950s Paris, when restaurateur Paul Gineste de Saurs introduced a bold idea at Le Relais de Venise with just one offering: salad, steak-frites and wine. The move was intended to support his family’s winery, Château de Saurs, by pairing the meal with a succinct wine list. The formula quickly became a beloved institution and an inspiration to generations of bistros and brasseries across France and beyond.
Decades later, that same spirit lives on at La Vache!, where quality ingredients, considered technique and warm hospitality form the backbone of the experience. The simplicity of the menu leaves no room to hide, especially when it comes to the beef. The USDA Double Gold Ribeye is the centrepiece: richly marbled, precisely cooked and sourced with care, offered at unmatched value.
La Vache!’s wine list is succinct but carefully considered, from bold Bordeaux and bright Burgundies to a crisp Petit Chablis, each bottle is chosen to complement the richness of the steak. At the centre is La Vache!’s house wine, selected for its balance, palatable and spirit of generosity – a nod to the original entrecôte pairing and offered at just $16++ per glass.
Though the menu is minimal, the atmosphere is anything but.
