Entering the second quarter of Bánh Mì du Monde: Passeport de Voyage, the worldwide voyage brought to you by Hong Kong’s favourite bánh mì shop, Le Petit Saigon is set to take your tastebuds to all new destinations and introduce new flavours from must-visit destinations. Bounce over to New Orleans, where Cajun-cooking and fresh seafood are abundant, before jetting back east and enjoying the fierce and fiery flavours of the Sichuan region and the bountiful lands of The Punjab. As part of the three-year celebration for its signature Bánh Mì du Monde series, the bánh mì takeaway has brought a little friendly competition to this sought-after programme with the introduction of a brand-new passport loyalty initiative, so get stamping!
This April, Chef Jack Carson of Carbone showcases his heritage with a bánh mì inspired by the city of endless fun and entertainment, New Orleans. Kicking off the lineup is his Fried Shrimp Po’boy Bánh Mì, a take on the world-famous Louisiana sandwich. Chef Jack fills this signature fluffy French baguette with crispy yet succulent fried shrimp and tops it with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato and fresh-cut pickles before dousing the seafood sandwich with his house-made spicy mayonnaise for that extra Louisiana-style kick.
Next up, journey back east to ‘The Land of Plenty’ for May as you delve into the flame-fired depths of Sichuan cookery with Head Chef Robert Wong of newly opened Grand Majestic Sichuan. While Sichuan food is often associated with the searing heat of mala, the more subtle components are crucial to forming the overall symphony of flavours, a truth which is illustrated with Chef Robert’s Sichuan Fried Fish Bánh Mì. Think delicate white fish prepared with an array of signature Sichuan spices, from freshly-ground chilli peppercorns to Sichuan pickled daikon and the house-made chilli oil, this bánh mì covers all the bases.
This June, Chef Chhabil Sidhu is ready to bring us a whole new side of The Punjab with his Aloo Tikki Bánh Mì. Highlighting the rich food heritage of the region, what was once a popular street snack in the area has been reimagined as part of the bánh mì experience. A delight for everyone, not just vegetarians, these small deep-fried and marinated potato and hen pea cutlets are sandwiched between the walls of the traditional French baguette before being topped with a refreshing sprinkle of coriander and juicy tomatoes.
Each Bánh Mì du Monde edition is only available for one month at a time and with new destinations to explore each quarter, there is a bánh mì for everyone.
