PENG LENG JENG FINDS ITS FOREVER HOME
What was meant to be a summer pop-up has quickly become a neighbourhood essential. After months of sizzling woks, clattering chopsticks and packed tables, Peng Leng Jeng has officially decided to stay, no end date, just more nights of neon-lit Cantonese chaos.
Created by Chef ArChan Chan and hospitality veteran Jonathan Leung, Peng Leng Jeng began as a love letter to Hong Kong’s vanishing dai pai dongs: unpretentious, fiery and full of energy. But as weeks turned into months, it became clear that this was not just nostalgia but something the city was craving.
“Every night, you could feel the buzz before you even stepped in,” says Chef ArChan. “The sound of the woks, the smell of the food, the laughter at every table, that energy is hard to find and it is why we knew we had to stay.”
Jonathan adds, “Guests kept coming back, after work and late into the night. That is when you know a place has become part of the community.”
Now open six nights a week, Peng Leng Jeng continues to deliver the flavours and spirit diners have come for, plus a few seasonal surprises. Expect comforting dishes like White Pepper Pork Stomach Soup, Chinese Sausage & Cured Meat Glutinous Rice and HK-Style Lamb Belly Pot. With Cantopop on the speakers, Blue Girl in the fridge and neon glowing well past dinner, the dai pai dong spirit lives on, not as a fleeting summer moment, but as a permanent fixture on Staunton Street.
