SUMMER FESTIVAL IS BACK!

Last year, in response to travel restrictions which had the whole city firmly grounded, the very first Black Sheep Restaurants Summer Festival kicked off to offer everything you love about travel without ever having to leave the city. A year on, with international travel still suspended, we are bringing back Summer Festival, bigger and better than ever.

Whether you travel for the thrill of discovery, the chance to relax and unwind, or the opportunity to immerse yourself in far-off cultures and cuisines, our all-new line-up of transportive culinary experiences connects you to the spirit of travel right here in Hong Kong.

From outdoor excursions to neighbourhood cellar strolls and unique culinary escapades, we are rolling out a series of events and experiences designed to take you on a flight of imagination. Embark with your first-class ticket in hand to discover new cuisines, learn the secrets behind your favourite restaurants and dishes, and escape to exotic lands with bespoke culinary experiences and cooking classes led by our chefs.

APRIL

Primavera ad Amalfi
Through 30 April
Located at Tai Kwun’s Magistracy building, Primavera Ad Amalfi evokes the coastal atmosphere of scenic seaside eateries perched atop the dramatic cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, replete with sublime seafood dishes, a seaside soundtrack and genuine Italian hospitality.

Osteria Marzia: Oyster Shucking
Saturday 8 May | 3 pm
Discover the secrets to shucking oysters with Chef Luca on a charming Southern Italian coastal getaway. Your maritime adventure begins with an oyster shucking class in Osteria Marzia’s aquamarine dining room, chasing down briny bivalves with generous pours of Champagne. Continue your Italian sojourn with a pick of prime market seafood at our Bari Mercato, a raw bar laden with treasures of the sea. Choose from succulent red prawns, hamachi and more, and bask in the colourful and diverse cuisine of Italy’s seaside regions with signature crudo dishes prepared tableside, served with handpicked wines from Sicily, Sardinia and Campania.

Artemis & Apollo: Greek Wine Orgy
Sunday 16 May | 12-4 pm
Feast, drink and dance like only the Greeks can, embarking on a hedonistic romp through the region of Macedonia in our Summer Festival edition of Greek Wine Orgy. Seated amidst the vibrant bougainvillaea in Wan Chai’s relaxed taverna, lunch evolves from virtuous repast to a festival of licentious revelry, swilling the nectar of the Gods and devouring a meal fit for Zeus himself. Set sail on a culinary odyssey lubricated with free-flowing Greek wine and ouzo: singing and dancing, smashing plates, and paying tribute to the Gods of wine and ecstasy. Yamas!

Crown Super Deluxe: Club Genesis
Saturday 22 May | 12-4pm
Exaggerated theatre, a knack for dramatic flair and adventure-seeking best describe Hiroaki “Rocky” Aoki, the Japanese-American wrestler and creator of iconic teppanyaki chain, Benihana. A cultural force and colourful tycoon, this singular figure helped forever shape the future of teppanyaki in the United States, incorporating skilled culinary moves and performance theatrics with a wink of humour and high jinks. In 1970, the insatiable playboy entrepreneur funnelled his joie de vivre into his newest venture, Club Genesis, a short-lived personal playground of sorts to welcome like-minded pleasure-seekers and fuel his exorbitant lifestyle.

On 22 May, Crown Super Deluxe revives Club Genesis in all its opulence and glory, flashing back to teppanyaki’s heyday with a chic disco brunch party spurred by the spirit of Aoki’s American dream. Dress in your retro best for a day of lavishness and decadence, fuelled by pleasure-seeking activities from backgammon gambling to Saketinis all around and dancing to a live DJ under the revolving disco ball. A luxurious teppanyaki menu pulls out all the stops, embracing Aoki’s MO of unrepentant excess, capped off with copious free-flowing sake. Boogie the day away to a soundtrack of psychedelic funk and disco tracks and keep the Rocky dream alive.

SoHo Cellar Strolls
Saturday 29 May | 3-6 pm
SoHo Cellar Strolls offers the ideal excuse to while away lazy summer afternoons in a wine-fuelled haze. Sip and stroll at your own pace to five stops in SoHo. Start your journey at Maison Libanaise for a glass of Les Breteches rosé paired with traditional mezze, then saunter off to Motorino, for a slice and where we will fill your glass with a fizzy Lambrusco. A stop at La Vache! includes a Parisian-approved platter of frites and house wine, priming your appetite for Ho Lee Fook’s signature snacks paired with the lesser-known labels of China. End your whirlwind wine tour in Florence for a classic sunset aperitivo at Stazione Novella.
