MAY HAPPENINGS AT BLACK SHEEP

With Hong Kong’s mercury rising, we are unveiling an enticing array of reasons for you to step out and indulge. May’s roster boasts a celebratory new addition to the Black Sheep story, talented chefs under the spotlight and a first-time expansion onto international shores.

JEAN-PIERRE, A JUBILANT HOMAGE TO THE CHARMING AND DECADENT BISTROS OF PARIS, IS NOW OPEN

We open the doors to Jean-Pierre on Bridges Street — a love letter to the golden age of Parisian bistros. Brought to life by founders Syed Asim Hussain and Marc Hofmann, Jean-Pierre captures the romance and revelry of classic French dining.

Set in an opulent space designed by Melissa Collison, the lively bistro features a cocktail bar, plush dining room and open-air terrace, evoking Art Deco glamour and sensual comfort. Rising star Chef John Troupis, mentored by Executive Chef Matthew Kirkley, helms a menu celebrating French bistro staples that defined French cuisine for the world — such as Steak Tartare ($198), Soupe à l’Oignon ($128) and Boeuf Bourguignon ($308).

Poulet de Simone ($888), an ode to the classic poulet roti, is reimagined with Hong Kong’s exceptional three yellow chicken, prepared the traditional way with a luscious stuffing of mushrooms, tarragon and spinach. And in a nod to to Paris’ Le Voltaire, the Oeuf Mimosa ($8) is served one half-egg at a time for $8, or €1, forever.

The wine programme, curated by Head Sommeliers Jean-Baptiste Copot and Nicolas Eyquem, spans Grand Cru bottles to Hong Kong’s first Languedoc wine on tap, while festive touches like the celebratory, full-house Champagne pour Tournée de Jean-Pierre ($4,888) invite guests to toast together in true Parisian style.

Open from Monday to Saturday, 6pm | Reserve here

GELATO MESSINA IS HEADING TO SINGAPORE

Gelato Messina, Australia’s cult-favourite dessert brand with over 20 years of sweet obsession, is bringing scoops of joy to Singapore with its very first location at 1 Club Street. Family-owned and operated since day one, Messina has earned a global following for its playful approach to gelato, weekly rotating specials and a commitment to crafting every element from scratch.

At Messina, it all starts with ingredients. They own and operate their own dairy and hazelnut farms in Australia, producing everything from rich Jersey milk and free-range eggs to honey, mint and hazelnut. Their herd of over 550 pasture-fed Jersey cows are milked once a day, resulting in a richer, creamier milk – the foundation of every Messina scoop.

To mark their arrival in Singapore, Messina has created five exclusive flavours inspired by the flavours and nostalgia of the region. Think of it as a love letter to the Lion City, written in gelato: Singapore, How You Durian? with coconut gelato, durian jam and chunks of durian cake; Kaya Toast with dehydrated toast and kaya jam; a rich Teh Tarik milk tea gelato; silky smooth Tau Huay; and Yolk’s On You, a salted egg yolk gelato with gula melaka caramel.

Doors open on 6 May | For more information and opening hours, visit here or follow us on Instagram, @gelatomessina.sg.

CRAB CLUB RETURNS TO HOTAL COLOMBO WITH CHEF PARK EUNYEONG OF GRAND MAJESTIC SICHUAN

Crab Club returns for another fiery feast — this time with the bold, spice-laden flavours of Sichuan. Chef Gizzy welcomes Chef Park Eunyeong of Grand Majestic Sichuan for a one-night-only celebration of crustaceans, chilli and Chinese-Sri Lankan nostalgia.

This edition of Crab Club draws from Chef Gizzy’s love for Chinese-inspired dishes in Sri Lanka and her years spent living in Zhongshan, where her mornings began with mala sauce on eggs and evenings ended with bowls of numbing, peppery delight. The memory of those dishes never left her and she is bringing them back with the help of Chef Eunyeong, known for her soulful and refined take on Chinese cuisine.

BELON ENTERS A NEW CHAPTER WITH THE ASCENT OF NEW HEAD CHEF MINA GÜÇLÜER

Hong Kong’s MICHELIN-starred BELON proudly enters a new chapter with the ascent of Head Chef Mina Güçlüer, who has been part of the BELON family since 2019. Chef Mina leads the restaurant with a fresh perspective shaped by her classical training and Mediterranean heritage. A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, Mina built her foundation in fine-dining kitchens across Europe before moving to Hong Kong. Working closely under the mentorship of Executive Chef Matthew Kirkley, she evolved quietly alongside the restaurant while honing her own culinary voice. Today, she brings a lighter, younger and more dynamic spirit to BELON’s sincere, modern French cuisine.

Guests are welcome to discover Chef Mina’s debut dishes through the Sélection du Chef (1,688), BELON’s signature tasting experience. The journey is further elevated by the sommelier team’s carefully curated wine pairings, or an equally thoughtful zero-proof pairing for those seeking a refined, non-alcoholic option. For a more intimate encounter, guests can choose to dine at the Chef’s Counter for a front-row seat to witness the flawless execution and orchestrated movements of the kitchen team.
