SUMMERY NEW DISHES AT OSTERIA MARZIA

As we drift into the warmer months, Osteria Marzia sets sail for the Italian coast with a selection of seasonal dishes that capture the lightness of a Mediterranean summer. The new menu is a love letter to Italy’s seaside, starting with a vibrant Carpaccio di Capasanta where delicate Hokkaido scallops meet the unexpected sweetness of Japanese strawberries. From the grill, the Gamberi e Fagioli brings together charred tiger prawns with a classic white bean salad, evoking memories of long, sun-drenched afternoons by the water.

The heart of this season’s update lies in the kitchen’s artisanal pastas and the Secondi. Our house-made Fettuccine alle Canocchie  is a highlight, featuring a deep, savoury mantis shrimp broth that tastes of the Adriatic, while the Fregola di Mare offers a rustic, Sardinian-inspired bowl of seafood broth, market fish and a touch of fennel pollen.

The narrative continues at the charcoal grill, where the Secondi celebrate the simplicity of a perfect catch. The Mayao alla Brace is a standout, paired with a vibrant zucchini and almond pesto and caponata sauce that balances the smokiness of the fire. For something with a bit of a zing, the Sgombro in Agrodolce brings Japanese king mackerel together with a crisp vegetable giardiniera and a refreshing apple and cucumber sauce. To complete the table, seasonal sides and salads like the Burrata with charcoal-grilled aubergine and the Insalata e Mandorle bring a crisp, garden-fresh brightness to the meal.

CINCO DE MAYO AT TAQUERIA SUPER MACHO

This Cinco de Mayo, Taqueria Super Macho turns up the volume with a night built around one thing — tacos, and plenty of them. On 5 May, guests are invited to raise a glass to Mexico with a south-of-the-border feast, featuring never-ending tacos served hot off the line. Expect bold flavours, punchy salsas and fillings, from Al Pastor with marinated pork, achiote and pineapple, to Pescado Baja with crispy fish, avocado salsa and chipotle mayonnaise. The spread continues with Suadero, slow-cooked pulled beef, Pollo Asado with salsa macha, and Nopal con Queso, a hearty combination of Mexican cactus, grilled onion and house-blend cheese. A Baja-style Coliflor rounds out the line-up, bringing the same crunch and spice in a plant-based form.

Those looking to turn up the celebration can opt for bottomless margaritas and ice-cold Coronas all night. Designed for sharing, stacking and going back for more, the experience is loud, unapologetic and built for a night that goes late.

GELATO MESSINA LAUNCHES PUP CUPS & ‘THE SCOOP’ SERIES WITH CHEF ANDREW WONG

Starting 17 May, Gelato Messina is expanding its legendary scoops to the whole pack with the launch of “Messina Pup Cups”, available exclusively at the Pottinger Street and Peak locations. Recognising that every family member deserves a treat, Gelato Messina has crafted a premium, dog-safe menu featuring three tail-wagging flavours: Rocco’s Peanut Butter & Banana, Rollo’s Boysenberry & Yoghurt and Luna’s Coconut & Mango.

Each Pup Cup is meticulously handmade with canine health in mind, using belly-friendly ingredients including lactose-free milk, unsweetened Greek yoghurt and fresh fruits. Whether you are strolling down the historic stone steps of Central or enjoying the breeze at The Peak, you can now reward your furry companion with the ultimate gelato run experience.

Gelato Messina is also debuting ‘The Scoop’ this May, a new partnership series that celebrates creativity alongside the city’s most exciting culinary voices. To kick off the inaugural edition, Gelato Messina has teamed up with 23-year-old self-taught chef Andrew Wong. Together with Head Chef Samantha Short, Wong has created ‘Sourdough BB‘, a toasted sourdough gelato layered with brown butter whipped cream and finished with chewy sourdough croutons.

Inspired by Andrew’s signature bread service, this monochrome flavour profile explores the nutty bittersweet Maillard notes shared by sourdough and caramelised brown butter. The result is a sophisticated reimagining of the simple joy of bread and butter.
