A SUNDAY WELL SPENT WITH GRILLADES À LA MAISON AT MAISON LIBANAISE

Come together with friends and loved ones every second Sunday afternoon of the month for a spread of barbecued delights inspired by Head Chef Teya Mikhael’s childhood.

Growing up in the village of Qobayat, just north of Beirut, Mikhael’s childhood was blessed by stretches of unspoiled forests and access to an incredible variety of local produce. Hot off a year-long stint as Head Chef at the famed The Lebanese Bakery in Beirut, Mikhael brings with her over six years of experience in Lebanese cuisine along with the fond memories of her upbringing to Maison Libanaise.

The tradition of Sunday barbecues is a ritual deeply rooted across cultures. Beyond cooking, Sundays are about coming together and in Lebanese families, they spend the afternoon feasting over Fattoush, Shish Taouk, Kafta Kebabs, and a variety of mouth-watering traditional Lebanese dishes.

Welcome the new week – the Beiruti way – with Grillades À La Maison on 9 October, this sharing style menu (designed for groups of four) is Mikhael’s nod to the Sundays spent watching her mother and grandmother transform simple ingredients into rich and resonant meals for loved ones; to the earthy aromas of cumin and sumac, and the refreshing tartness of pomegranate and lemon; to the nostalgic smell of barbecued meats and seafood.

Served on the rooftop every second Sunday of the month from 12pm, the afternoon begins with a mezze of Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Watermelon Feta Salad, and Levantine Fattoush before digging into a selection of infinite barbecued mains including Traboulse Shish Taouk, Kabse Tiger Prawns, Green Shatta Squid, Baharat Cauliflower Steak, and Kafta Skewers, all grilled to order by the chef. Of course, breaking bread is best enjoyed with flowing bubbles or rosé. So select a bottle from the restaurant’s list of underrated Lebanese vineyards. This Sunday rooftop barbecue feast ends on a sweet and juicy note with a refreshing fruit platter.
