After a two-year hiatus, our beloved Chalet des Alpes is making its much-anticipated return, bringing the charm and nostalgia of a mountain escape to a new location in the heart of SoHo. This festive winter pop-up invites you to step into a cosy retreat inspired by the lodges of snow-dusted Alpine villages.
Situated above the hustle and bustle of SoHo, Chalet des Alpes recreates the warmth of a traditional Alpine chalet. Its rustic charm evokes everyone’s favourite part of a ski holiday – the après – without any of the hazardous skiing or inclement weather to grapple with. All the melty cheese with none of the freeze.
You are encouraged to round up friends, family and colleagues for the ultimate end of year celebration and begin the evening at the bar with a festive classic like creamy Eggnog or an aromatic Mulled Wine to set the tone of the night. Moving on to the menu which is priced at $688 per guest and not for the faint of heart, prepare for unadulterated cold-weather comforts.
Dinner starts with nibbles, a classic Charcuterie spread and Salade de Mâche, lamb’s lettuce with crispy bacon and egg. Swiss Raclette is next and served warm and melted to be scraped over yellow potatoes, cornichons and pickled pearl onions. Before the next course arrives, tradition demands that everyone is aware of the fon-dos and the fon-donts of Fondue. Do pick a penalty that the whole table agrees to (perhaps a round of drinks or an impromptu serenade) and while dipping one’s bread into this decadent pot of molten Gruyère, Vacherin and white wine could be peak hygge, it is not without its hazards – don’t lose your garnish in the pot, or else the penalty applies!
At this point, you will believe you are completely full but zut alors! you will find that there is always space for a little Chocolate Tart served with Chantilly cream. Only you will then be released from your Alpine dream back onto the streets of SoHo to see where the night takes them.
A thoughtfully curated wine list including Provence Rosé, Whispering Angel, Ruinart, Chandon Garden Spritz and a selection of French and Swiss labels has been chosen by our expert sommeliers to complement this extravaganza. But for those of you in the know also know that we are waiving corkage until the end of the year so for every bottle purchased at the Chalet, you can bring one at no extra cost – a mini festive miracle.
Whether rekindling fond memories of European winters or indulging in a festive fantasy, Chalet des Alpes offers a transportive experience, the spirit of an Alpine winter without leaving the city.
Chalet des Alpes is located at 1F, 22 Staunton Street, SoHo. Reservations are now open, with dinner service available from 6pm daily, from 16 to 29 December.
