Freeze! Summer has announced its arrival, and the regal and luscious mango, a symbol of warm weather season, is ready for its close-up. Pay a visit to the Rajasthan Rifles Mango Lassi Lolly stall for a treat that pays homage to the beloved mango lassi. Powered by Hong Kong’s favourite gelato, the creamy mango delight brings Messina’s weird and wonderful spirit to our Anglo-Indian mess hall.
The mango is more than a fruit. For many Indians, it is a reminder of lazy summer holidays back at home. The mango has religious importance dating back to when it was said Buddha rested and meditated in the tranquillity of lush mango groves. Lord Ganesha, the elephant god, is often shown holding a ripe mango in one hand, symbolising prosperity. In Hindu mythology, love arrives with the blossoming of the mango tree and Kama, the god of love, tips his arrow with five flowers, one of them the mango blossom.
The nostalgia of mango lassi runs deep in the hearts of Indians. It triggers fond childhood memories of plucking the juicy fruit from backyard mango trees and roadside stalls filled with spectacular and picturesque ripe yellow fruit, later used at night in every household to make a delicious lassi to beat the heat.
Originating in Punjab, lassi was a drink created to bring relief to the blistering heat of summer by mixing yoghurt and water, with a pinch of salt for flavour. Over time, it has evolved to incorporate various fruits, flavours, and spices in different regions of North India. In Rajasthan, it is commonly flavoured with saffron and cardamom. Lassi has become more than just a drink; it is often served to welcome guests at special occasions as a symbol of hospitality and goodwill.
Mango Lassi Lolly features Messina’s signature Mango Sorbet, blended with yoghurt flavoured with a touch of cardamom, and coated with generous sprinkle of chopped almonds, chopped pistachio praline, shredded coconut, and crunchy freeze-dried mango. Gather your fellow officers and enjoy summertime at The Peak over breakfast and an ice lolly to cap it all off, available every weekend starting 3 June.
